I need your assistance to help make “Making Money Online Dot Com” a better website. One of coolest Wordpress plugins I have ever seen to encourage comments on blogs is CommentLuv and we want it on this website.
Unfortunately, I am having some issues every time I activate it. I am not sure if it is another plugin that it doesn’t get along with, or if it has something to do with the theme design. I just know when I activate it causes a weird thing to happen, at least on my computers.
I contacted the support team over at CommentLuv and Andy was very quick to reply…which I really appreciated. I explained to him the issue I was having and he tried several times to recreate the problem on his computer, but he never could duplicate it. That being said… if he could not duplicate the problem, there was no way he could help me. That got me to thinking that it might just be my computer, so I tried my wife’s computer and my laptop and I still had the same problem. So, I told that to Andy and he said to activate the plugin and write a post and see if other visitors experience the same issue as me, and if they do… to contact them back so he can look further into it.
So that is what I am doing now. I am asking for your help to see if you are having this issue with our site on your computer. So what is the issue I am having? Well our site is set-up so when you click on any link it opens up in the same window (or tab). But when I activate CommentLuv and go to one of my post pages… EVERY SINGLE LINK on that page when clicked opens up the destination page in a new tab.
Now there are a few exceptions… It seems to only have this issue in Firefox, and not IE… but I have not tried any other browsers. Also, it does not happen on the “index” page, or if you end up on one of our posts from a direct link from another site. It seems to only happen when you click on a post from our index page.
So can you guys please test this out for me and let me know if you have the issues I am? If so, please follow these simple steps below and then leave a comment with your results below. I have activated CommentLuv and will leave it activated for 24 hours for this test.
**I am only running this test Monday August 10th so you do not need to try after that**
Step 1) Go to our homepage: www.MakingMoneyOnline.com
Step 2) Click on a post: You should be able to click on any post.
Step 3) Click on any link: Once on a post page go over to the sidebar and click on a link under “Topics” or click on the logo at the top of the page. Did a new window open up?
Step 4) Please let us know your results in the comment section in this post. Please let us know what “Browser” and what “Version” you are using as well.
THAT’S IT!!! Thank-you to everyone that helps… we do appreciate it!
We will have CommentLuv working on this site one day… even if we have to change themes. I promise!

hey Doug, I’m using FireFox and I followed your instructions. Once I clicked on your home page link it opened a new tab on my browser. I then clicked on Affiliate programs topic and it opened in the same tab or page so it worked fine for me.

Doug Dillard on Mon, 10th Aug 2009 1:25 am
Thanks Sire… but can I ask you something? Did you click on the Affiliate Links topic from the index page? Because I have no problems with the index page links. Only on the post pages.
Please go to the index page again… then click on a post… then click on the Affiliate Program topics link again and let me know if it opens in new window.
Also… clicking on the logo is not suppose to open a new window.
Thanks!
Lee Ka Hoong on Mon, 10th Aug 2009 7:32 am
Doug, I’ve tried to click the Affiliate Programs (Topics) from your main page, it didn’t open a new tab, so it’s in good condition, only your blog post having problem.

yes it was from the index page. I’ve just tried it from this page and both the link and the logo opened a new page. Weird.
May I suggest you deactivating all the plugins bar commentluv to see what the result is? I will hang around if you like.

Yep, it still does it. So at least you know it’s not conflicting with another plugin. Next activate a different theme if you have one handy?

NP. Just realize it could be your browser settings. You didn’t mention which version of Firefox you have, but I wrote a post on a Firefox 3.5 Tab issue problem recently where there’s a plugin you can download to correct it, if you’re having the same issue I was. That, and of course verifying your settings in the Options area.

Doug,
I’m a bit confused as for what the sidebar has to do with CommentLuv. I know there is a reason you are asking us to do this, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Can someone elaborate?
The Gooroo @ iBlogPlanet´s last blog ..How Important Are Domain Names?
Doug Dillard on Mon, 10th Aug 2009 9:56 pm
Did you do the steps Gooroo? On my computer when I do not have CommentLuv activated… if I click on a link (which includes the sidebar links) the new page opens in the same window (or tab).
But when I activate CommentLuv those SAME LINKS now open the new pages in new windows. At least on my browser and some others that have commented on this site.
*** I just mentioned the sidebar links as an example. It actually occurs on EVERY single link on any of my post pages (but not the index page).
Lee Ka Hoong on Mon, 10th Aug 2009 11:19 pm
I’m curious about it and would like to try to figure it too, as my blog which installed commentluv plugin didn’t have this problem occurred.
Doug, does anyone in Commentluv team has any further action about this issue? Do update us.

Lee

Try as I might, I can’t get this to reproduce on my machines. I tried vista and xp with the big 3 browsers and all links opened in the same window
I do see that your theme includes the jquery library from it’s own files which means it gets loaded twice. there should be a line in your themes header that includes the javascript, see if you can change it with php for wp_enqueue_script(‘jquery’);
that’s the only thing I can suggest without being able to see it happen myself. sorry I can’t help more
