The Ultimate Footer Ad

I am guessing many of you have already seen the Ultimate Footer Ad that many websites have installed on their websites lately, and we are using on this site as well. It is the form that popped up from the bottom of our website when you first came to our site. It looks like this…

Making Money Online with the Ultimate Footer Ad

Now I am not here to tell you how great it is, as we have just started using it and I have no stats to give you on whether it works or not, but so far I think it is a very cool product. We do plan to test it out very thoroughly and I will get back to you and let you know how it works for us. Not only are we going to test it out on this site, but we are going to test it out on a couple of our more established sites and see if we can get our opt-in subscriber conversions up. I will update you in a month or so and let you know the results for each site.

As for the product itself, it is not a Wordpress plug-in, but a standalone script that (I believe) will work on any website. It does takes a little bit of technical skills to install, as you need to create a database for it, but the scripts designer has created very simple “walk-you-through-it” instructions that make it very easy to get it up and running. He also included some great video tutorials to show you different ways you can use the script to help build your business.

Another really cool thing is you can choose from 2 different ad types; it can be used as a standard “clickable” ad, or it can be set-up as an opt-in form that works with most of the major autoresponders. We use Aweber and it was SUPER EASY to setup!

It also comes with 72 pre-installed graphic templates that allow you to change the look of the ad with a push of a button. If you would like to add your own custom graphics, you can simply add them to your own template folder and upload it to your server and the script automatically recognizes it. That’s what we did for this site and it worked flawlessly.

There are several other features, but you can read all that information on their website. As for the cost, at this time it is priced at $47 and it comes with “unlimited domain usage”, which means you can use it on all your websites. I REALLY like that, as many scripts you purchase nowadays only allow you to use it on one site, and you have to pay more to put it on multiple sites.

Below is a video I created showing how  easy it is to actually create a footer ad. It is my first video, so try not to be too critical on the quality.

Again, I will get back to you in a month or so and let you know if we see some higher conversions.

How about you guys, are any of you using the Ultimate Footer Ad? I am curious to hear the results of people who have actually used the script for a while, and to know if any of the templates work better than the rest. Please let us know in the comment section below.

I have seen this on a few sites and it’s eye catching, would like to hear from you again when you have some stats as coughing up $47 for me is a lot of money.

I saw yours on your home page and it looks cool, the colours and details are different to the normal pop-up and all.

Thanks for sharing this info :)

Thanks George for the comments. I customized our ad to match the website, which is super easy to do if you have some type of image editor. So far I cannot tell on this site if it makes a difference as we just launched a few days ago and there is not much traffic yet, but one of our other sites definitely has increased subscribers, but we will see if it continues.

$ 47 is a huge some at this point in time at least. I have the peel ad, but have not tried it though

If you’re planning to start a blogroll in future, pls let me know… I would like to a part of it and will link back to you as well.

Hi Doug, any updates on the footer ad? I’ve seen this one advertised by John Chow too. I think it’s cool. It’s way more visible than the stripe ad and it’s less intrusive than the in-your-face pop up.

I’m interested to get this footer ad script, of course. Please update us with regard to its effectivity.

Hi James… thanks for stopping by. So far the numbers have been pretty good. The site is just over one month old and out of the 27 subscribers we have so far 17 have come from the footer ad and it has a 3.79 CTR for overall visitors… which is not too bad.

We have it running on two other sites… well one now. I was using it on our community site and the CTR was 5.2, but for some reason it was screwing up the alignment of our theme, so we disabled it after a couple of weeks, but hopefully we will get it back up when we figure it out.

The other site is a really specific niche site and it is doing best on there, but we are offering a lot more than just an eCourse, so I think that is the reason it is doing better.

Overall we are happy with it.

Yeah! It’s so green. Haha! Well, I must agree with George that the $47 is pretty costly

Frankly, it bothered me the first time I saw it. I thought it was like a pop advertisement, first thing I did was look for the (X). However, I’d like to know how affective it is before looking into purchasing something of the like. Thanks for the post.

I didn’t actually see it pop up at all, but I have seen it on other blogs and I find it extremely annoying. I certainly have never clicked on any form of pop-up since I’ve been online.

I think its a bit ugly could be better if you are going to pay $47 for it..

    • Doug Dillard on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 11:04 am

Ours definitely is not the most beautiful one ever… that’s for sure, but I have seen some nice ones. I created it to match the site… but it is definitely a little overpowering to the eyes.

    Hey Doug,
47$ for it seems to be worth with the stats which you added in the above comment. In long term this will be going to be very handy and useful for you…

    • Doug Dillard on Sun, 2nd Aug 2009 5:43 pm

In the long run it is definitely worth the investment. But I can understand that people with no budget whatsoever might find better ways to spend $47.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment… we do appreciate it!

I’m about to try it for http://www.curetinnitus.org. Why not? Also, if you back out of the site, it gives you a free 30-day trial. How cool is that? I actually like this popup and I do find it unobtrusive. I think it’s slick and nice and I’m going to try it.

    Best,
    Dainis

Hi Doug, very interesting product indeed, do you need an autoresponder in order to use it? also… don’t you know the name of the program where you can open a divertisement in a page as if you turned the page or a book. You can see it on the top right hand corner on John Chow’s website. I do really like it and would like to purchase it…

  12. Lee Ka Hoong on Sun, 9th Aug 2009 10:13 am

$47 for the script is reasonable, I’ve actually heard about this script on JohnChow’s blog few months ago but I think I still don’t need it as I don’t have any product to promote right now, I just have one free ebook for the subscribers. :D

So Doug do you find it useful and how’s the conversions?

    Regards,
    Lee

    • Doug Dillard on Sun, 9th Aug 2009 5:05 pm

To be honest Lee… I have not had great conversions with it on this site. It does pretty good on some other niche sites though. I am not sure if it is because of my design (as it is pretty bright green) or something else. I am thinking of either redesigning it and maybe have another offer… or getting rid of it on this site.

To be honest, your footer pop-up is kinda distracting when I scroll your site up and down. I don’t find it comfortable so I closed it. I don’t think I’ll add one on my site. But that’s just me.

    • Doug Dillard on Sun, 9th Aug 2009 5:10 pm

Yeah… I can see how it could bug some people. We have gotten several sign-ups from it… so it is hard for us to decide if we should keep it or not. As long as we do not lose readers because of it… I think it is good to have.

  14. Dainis on Sun, 9th Aug 2009 11:37 pm

The day before I installed the footer ad, I had 4 sign-ups. I had just created a less obtrusive sign-up method. Now I’m getting about 2 per day, but I’ve gone down from 50-100 visitors per day to just under 50.

I’m not sure if I’m going to keep the footer ad going. It will be there for all of this week, then I will remove it and test for a week again.

    Best,
    Dainis

Not a big fan of these or the pop-up subscribe boxes. I think it might be good to have on from time to time. But if the numbers work that the numbers work. I guess the best thing might be to spilt test it if possible and see on and off every other week and and stop and see.

Hi Doug. Like several people said earlier, I just don’t care for this feature. It reminds me too much of popup ads, and for me, it crosses that imaginary line where a website “tries too hard” to profit instead of focusing on providing value to the reader. Maybe that makes sense or not, I don’t know. Also, it might depend on what kind of blog you’re running. I suppose that if getting subscribers is the most important goal that you have, then it might possibly work.

As visitors, footer ads are not that appealing for me but if the colour are quite harmony with the pages it should be ok. Too much contrast will are quite distractive.

This bottom footer is an effective “in your face” lead generation tool. I’ve tried a couple myself actually… However, when you are working with one, make sure they work with all major web browsers (including different versions as well). For example, some of the ones I have tried did not work well in Internet Explorer 6.

I think i might buy this plugin when i’ve got a established blog with some nice flowing traffic and $47 for this doesnt look to bad. Nice video by the way looks kind of easy to setup. I’ve also seen this footer ad on many different blogs and in my honest opinion it does tend to attract attention, although i never click it i’m sure that new bloggers or beginners do.

Overall i think it looks quite attractive and cool, but i’m not really in the mood to spend $47 just yet.

    Doug,

It looks like it has been two months since you deactivated this. What did you decide? Did you notice any difference?

I am just curious. The post is still featured on your home page, but I see that you haven’t activated it again.
