I am in a few meetup groups, 2 for hiking and camping here in Utah and one for Great Dane owners. I’ve never been to any of the hiking ones but I do get lots of great ideas for new places to hike and fish from other users. The Great Dane meetups are a ton of fun. Imagine 20-30 200lb dogs running around the dog park together.

I hadn’t thought of looking up other bloggers or entrepreneurs though, I’ll have to see what kind of groups we have in Salt Lake City.

My very good friends own a local brewery and my taste buds have changed over the years. I use to be a big Fosters guy years ago, but now I like my beers a little darker, like reds, nut browns, IPS’s and such. Definitely not a big Bud guy… but I could drink down some Miller Lite at a BBQ if there is nothing else around

Now, don’t get me wrong Doug, as an Aussie I love my beer, but the fact that my parents are Italian and all I just feel that it should be pizza and wine. The funny thing is that I have pizza and beer and the pizza tastes just as good.

BTW, what beer did you have mate, a budweiser perhaps? At least you Yanks like your beer cold, not like those Poms

Pizza and beer? Yeah I reckon you could have that combo, although I know a few Italians that may look down their nose at you. Perhaps beer and wine would do the trick.

Fortunately this coffee shop does serve beer as well, which of course Mark and I had… as neither of us drink coffee

$3 is SUPER CHEAP and the guy even bought pizza… and if your going eat pizza, you have to have beer!

Must have been a little disappointing having it in a coffee shop, especially as you were expecting beers and all. Still, only $3 a head is damn cheap for an hour presentation, especially if they provided the coffee

I have experience with Meetup. I used it last year to find like-minded people for the presidential election. Being that I live in a predominately rural area, I would suspect that Meetup is better in urban areas where there are more likely to be like-minded people closeby. Also, having a leader of the group who is dedicated to the endeavor is PARAMOUNT, as my group leader was pretty flaky.

Maybe I will take your advice, and check it out again in the near future.

I recently recieved an invitation to go to a TweetUp but not a MeetUp, seems there’s a lot of UPS in the internet world

Great post now I have to see if I have what it takes to get involved in these things, Im not so much a “Meet people” kinda guy.
