Since this website is about, “Our Journey to Online Fame & Fortune” we thought we should start sharing with our readers some of the other sites and projects we have been working on.
You can help with our latest case study. We are looking for your tips, suggestions, and comments to help us promote one of our more provocative websites. I addition… we would love to hear some of your ideas for creating additional revenue streams for the site as well.
We created an online business a while back that was based on an annual radio bit taken from our favorite local morning show; the Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw Show on 101KGB FM in San Diego. Every year, just after Valentine’s Day, they give the guys a chance to celebrate a holiday of their own which is known as Steak & Knobber Day, or “Valentine’s Day for Guys“. If that term offends you, this is probably a good time for you to switch to another blog for the day.
Still with us? Good. The premise of S&K Day is this; Valentine’s Day is really all about the women. Guys buy flowers, chocolates, jewelry and do the romantic dinner just for their ladies. We are expected to do this, and for the large part we go all out willingly. With Steak & Knobber Day, which takes place on March 20th each year, all we ask for in return is something we all can appreciate (and somewhat deserve): A good old fashioned steak and a well deserved knobber.
Let’s face it, we aren’t looking for a new car, or even the latest high-tech gadget that could put you back several hundred dollars. A $10 steak dinner is all it will cost you, and the second part you can do yourself for free. I guarantee you will get a compliment even if either part doesn’t turn out the way you would expect it to. We are guys, so all you really have to do is show up and we are good to go. You can burn the steak, drop it on the ground, and you will still have a satisfied customer upon completion of Part II of this little known national holiday. For the married guys out there, we are trying to get you one more other than the one you get on your Anniversary if you are lucky. Some would say that was a joke, while others would call that statistically correct.
You can help us to take Steak and Knobber Day from just a great idea and be a part of the success as we try making money online with it. How would you help to promote Steak & Knobber Day throughout the world? What merchandising ideas would you come up with? Do you find it offensive or funny? As we are both family guys, we tread a fine line with this product. We don’t want to offend anyone, or turn this into an X-Rated product. We do think it is a very funny concept, and would like it to go from a local popular holiday that is favorably practiced to a globally accepted holiday for the better of all mankind.
Visit the website at steakandknobberday.com and tell us what you think. What would you do if you were going to be making money online with the Steak & Knobber Day website? We designed several items through our Cafe Press Store, and rely on those purchases for income without having to carry any inventory.
What techniques would you use to promote your products online? How would you encourage others not only to participate, but to wear and promote your products? We are serious about this, so please include sincere comments with your opinions in the comments section. This is a family friendly website, so please refrain from explicit comments.

Well Mark, I realize you want to keep this family oriented but I have found that a pretty girl with a nice chest always sells a lot of shirts. You don’t have to be raunchy about it, like what Bob Parsons & GoDaddy does with Danica Patrick and that cow Michelle, it can be done tastefully.

Dick,
That is a great idea. We started off with cute sayings for the first round, and if you see the logo we have, you get the humorous angle we are aiming at. I am sure we could do a tie in with the Hooters chain if this really takes off.
Thanks for the suggestions. We will keep you abreast (get it) of our new designs as the develop.

First I was trying to work out what was rated about this post. I then figured it had something to do with a Knobber, something I’ve never heard about, but I think from the gist of the post it has something to do with a romp in the sack. If that’s the case, I reckon screw the steak and let’s get in to the main course.
How to promote this online? I will look on with interest because perhaps I can use some of the ideas on my latest site…..you know the one.

Well there is no chance in hell that’s ever going to happen, now that I’m married, so if that’s the case slap the steak on the Barbie and hand me a beer.

Maybe if you do a little extra for her this Valentine’s Days and find some sneaky way to get her to checkout the website… maybe you will get lucky
Sire on Thu, 24th Sep 2009 5:56 pm
Don’t try and build up my hopes Doug me old mate. I reckon I’ll just settle for the steak and beer, and if I’m lucky a romp in the sack.

Great idea! I certainly would like this to be a regular holiday. How did you decide on the actual date of March 20th?

We did not come up with the idea. It was created by our local radio station back in 1998 (I believe) and they came up with the date. It is a fairly popular holiday already (do a Google search for Steak and Knobber Day), we are just trying to expand it to the world

It’s not a US holiday Alfredo… it is a worldwide one, so you can help spread the word in Venezuela! Your country (well at least the guys in your country) needs you… so step up and get the word out

Holy crap this is beyond funny and it’s an excellent marketing idea, I think like anything else that has any kind of risk there will morons that get upset about it and there will be people like me that think the idea is one of the greatest ever.
One downside to the entire thing is that IMHO for the crap we have to put up with it should be a weekly holiday.

We figured you would like this one John. The holiday is actually a little over 10 years old now and it has really started to take off in the last couple of years. We are just trying to help spread the word to the world.
A weekly celebration would of course be nicer… but once a year is better that never
Dropout Joe on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 10:21 am
Maybe play with the idea of people being entered into a contest that gives away a great prize for submitting photos of themselves wearing the T-Shirts.
Prize would have to be large…something like Limo + Steak Dinner + Hotel room paid for on March 20th. Then try blasting a press release about it.

There’s no event to attend. It’s a Holiday like New Year’s or Christmas… only more fun!!! You can celebrate it wherever you live
We are trying to spread the holiday around the world so everyone starts to celebrate it. We just need everyone’s help getting the word out. You can tell your friends, write posts, send emails… whatever… just send them to the website

This is one of my favorite days of the year.
I think what you really need to do is find a way to plug spread this via facebook. Maybe some youtube videos that link back to the site. Facebook would eat this stuff up. Heck it might just be as simple as setting up a fan page for it.
So every man can become a fan of it on Facebook.
