I use TweetDeck, which you saw Sire mention, and I have it divided into people I need to make sure I see what they're saying, people writing me or mentioning my name, and everyone else. I also have it set to show me the newest 300 posts whenever it updates, and I don't worry about the rest. I tend to speed read, so when I'm ready, I can read through a bunch of messages pretty quickly and see what needs to be shared and what I want to comment on. If your going to be a serious Twitter user you will need some tools to help make the experience a little more enjoyable, Seesmic or Tweet Deck of course make that simple. Than if you have a cell phone like a Blackberry you can grab Uber Twitter (have it on my site) which allows you to send picture tweets, retweet, reply and anything else you can think of right from your cell phone. Here is a quick tip. When you follow people for the first time, Tweet that your following @extremejohn for example. "I am now following @extremejohn who posts excellent tips for newbie bloggers." Doing so will show your tweet in their time line as well as their Tweet Deck or Seesmic, if you don't get a thank you or a response or anything from that person after a few days.
