It is hard not to get wrapped up with perfecting everything. I do find at times when I rush people understand and don't point out the mistakes. I would rather they left those things alone.

Thanks Brad... I am glad you liked it! I have gotten so much more accomplished it the last few months because I made a decision to set deadlines to complete things. Even if they are not perfect I still just put them out there and then I just make changes if needed later. I feel so much more productive now :)

Doug,

I wish I could conquer this. You are right about it stopping you from pulling the trigger. I think that is exactly why we tend to be perfectionists. We are afraid of being rejected, looking foolish, being wrong, or whatever it happens to be in your particular case.

It gives us a "justifiable" excuse to not pull the trigger. I have wasted so much time perfecting things in my life that whatever I am working on starts looking like one of those people who had plastic surgery a few too many times. Often, had I just stopped working on it after a few revisions it would probably had been "perfect."

Thanks for sharing with us. It was a little therapeutic. :)

I call surely relate to your post, as I use to spend hours simply writing a blog post and looking for perfection. At the end of the day, it was never totally what you wanted it to be.

I learned to let some imperfection show through so that people could better relate to me as being one of them, and not a creature of perfection which none of us will ever be.

Nice post!

You know something? I just realized that Google did something weird and now my site is not ranked. I'm not sure what the heck happen but I decided not to worry about it. I'm going to continue to do what I set out to do. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think twice. I'm not giving up but I think my direction is a bit off. I wrote to your comment today and thought perhaps you could give me your opinion. Hope to hear from you soon. I've definitely learned not to fall victim to #1.

Perfectionism is something I have been struggling with while trying to undertake the task of setting up my own blog. I procrastinate writing new blog posts so long that the next thing I know I've gone yet another day without making one.

It just so happens perfectionism may be the underlying cause of my procrastination. Nevertheless, I am trying to address procrastination over the next couple days, starting (of course) tomorrow. :P

Very true. Perfectionism prevents you from simply trying out new things.

We recently launched a video series at www.socialnerdia.com called Random Tuesdays with Summer Rose. It's about nothing, just random thoughts from someone who has no journalistic, online, or video experience. Just doing the YouTube thing and hoping it will resonate with someone. It's been fun and far from perfect.

I had this problem with my other blog. Trying to make each post perfect. It wastes too much time.
