I love reading blogs to see what people are writing about, and I like to check out the different bloggers writing styles. I also want to see the different ways people have setup the overall design of their blogs; the colors they use, the layout of the blog, the way they display ads, if they have a newsletter/rss subscription box, etc… I just like to get an overall feel for the blog.
With all the blogs I visit, I always wonder how the blogger plans to make money with their blog. I understand that there are many bloggers out there that don’t think you should make money with your blog, (which is fine) but I am not one of them
The reason I am writing this post is that I visit lots of blogs that are in the “Make Money Online” niche and I am not sure how they plan to make money online with their site. Some might have a few affiliate banners up and some Adsense ads, but nothing more. I wonder if they have any long term strategy to do so.
Since today is Friday this is not going to be a long post. I just want to ask you a couple of questions.
The first question can be answered in the following poll. I am assuming the answer would be “Absolutely“, since you are visiting a site called, “Making Money Online Dot Com“, but it might not be.
If you answered Absolutely, (and if you wouldn’t mind) please share some of your ideas for how you plan to make money with your blog in the comments below, other than just displaying banner and Adsense ads. I am sure our readers would love to hear your ideas.

On your question, there are absolutely so many ways to make money online with blogging! Actually, I’m writing an ebook about it (about blogging but I’m tackling MMO too).
To name a few, affiliate marketing is among the best way. Followed by advertising spots, in-text advertising (like infolinks and kontera). Paid review of course are good ones too. Oh geez, I have so many ideas. I’ve written a few MMO articles in my blog if you have time to read.
and by the way, I answered “absolutely” on your poll.

Haha. Thanks Doug! I find your blog great as well! Let’s just keep doing a good job to our blogs.
Curious Little Person on Fri, 17th Jul 2009 11:12 pm
I just voted for “Absolutely”…. but i don’t have the exact answer now…. Diferent strategies may be used at different point of times… but i’m still in the learning phase, so cannot really comment on how i will strategize to make money online…
But one thing is for sure, i know i will make money online…

My answer will be the 3rd one. Because when i started blogging back a year back or so..i don’t even know that i can earn some bucks.. Just started to show my pics and all the details…But it turned out to be a fantastic journey in terms of satisfaction and earnings
Doug Dillard on Fri, 17th Jul 2009 11:31 pm
Cool! I think that is how is starts for a lot of people. As long as the journey is fantastic… the money is truly a bonus

Similar to TechZoomIn, blogging began as a “fun” thing for me. Now that I see there are so many ways to profit from my blog, I’m definitely going to explore!
Doug Dillard on Sat, 18th Jul 2009 8:47 am
Keep it fun and continue exploring as there are a zillion different ways to make money out there!

I have made money online before, but not so much with my blog network yet. I need to find some solid mainstream revenue sources that fit my niche’s which seems hard.
Doug Dillard on Sat, 18th Jul 2009 8:45 am
John, to me attracting new clients to your offline businesses and creating more income that way counts as making money with your blog. One of our goals is to use this site as the main hub to our developing “Internet Empire” and have it link out to our other sites and affiliate programs which will each have their own ways to generate income. If we can build some offline businesses as well, we will be linking to them as well
Developerholic on Sat, 18th Jul 2009 9:53 am
Yes yes yes! I had previously owned an MMO site before, earned at least $100/month from it then eventually made the sale
Doug Dillard on Wed, 22nd Jul 2009 12:55 pm
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. As for your site, http://developerholic.com/, how does it work? Are those free theme for anyone to use? There is no “About” section, so I am not sure what the rules are.
Asswass on Sat, 18th Jul 2009 1:18 pm
I started my blog to talk about my website but i don’t mind if a make a few bucks on the road.
P.S. You used a poll in this blog, why didn´t you use Hiburrito -:O
Doug Dillard on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 1:04 am
Sorry… totally slipped my mind. I already had the plug-in installed and just added it. Me bad
edos on Sat, 18th Jul 2009 6:05 pm
I have added adsense to my blog for the past six months and my account balance is at about $10, is this normal or what ?
Doug Dillard on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 1:07 am
Has to do with a lot of things. With Adsense… traffic is one of the biggest issues, then ad placement, color layout, etc. Do you plan to get your own domain for your site one day?
Lee Ka Hoong on Sun, 23rd Aug 2009 2:54 am
That’s normal edos, I even took about more than 1 year to get my first Adsense checks. You need to learn and do some SEO work for your blog to increase the earning, SEO is what you must do to make money with Adsense.

Keep doing what you are doing and grow out your business. Your site is one of the better bloggerspot designs I have seen.

@ Edos
It is completely normal to have made $10 or so after 6 months. Making money from Adsense is not easy and takes time.
Lee Ka Hoong on Sun, 19th Jul 2009 7:31 am
Hi Doug, “Absolutely” is my answer.
I own a MMO niche blog as well. Between, Adsense is not my main money maker, I used to make money from my blog by selling private banner ads. Anyway, I love to share ways to make money from a blog such as building profitable niche blog, but it takes time to achieve.
Regards,
Lee

I think it is perfectly normal for someone to make money off their website. The new people that are starting to blog have to figure out that it takes time to make money. Thanks Greg Ellison
Doug Dillard on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 1:13 am
Thanks for stopping by Greg. Absolutely… it definitely takes time and most people just don’t stick it out long enough to find out unfortunately.
Asswass on Mon, 20th Jul 2009 1:34 pm
haha don’t worry Doug, I’m just kidding. But would love to hear your feedback about Hiburrito. I got some great tips and comments last week and I’m already working on the mosifications.

Firstly your poll isn’t working any more.
OK, as to making money, two of my blogs are used extensively for doing paid posts. Naturally when Google found out I went from a PR4 to PR0, but unlike most people who go crawling up Google’s proverbial to get their PR back, I couldn’t be bothered as getting paid for the posts was so easy. Strangely enough, those two blogs collectively make as much adsense revenue as the rest of my blogs. Ironic wouldn’t you say?

I got the poll working again, thanks! That was one of the plugins I deactivated when we were commentluv, and I didn’t turn of back on because I forgot about this poll
I have a Google related question for you. I have heard that Google does not like sites that do Paid Posts (as you mention), but how about Paid Reviews? Do they frown on that too?

Lee Ka Hoong on Sat, 22nd Aug 2009 11:59 am
I think Google is fine with Paid Reviews, as long as you don’t insert any dofollow link in the post, otherwise Google may penalize you and take down your Pagerank. I’ve done a few paid reviews for some sites but there is no dofollow link inserted into the post, it doesn’t have any problem, just do it Doug if you receive any great deal.

Aren’t paid posts and paid reviews the same thing, just a different name? From what I understand Google does not like any paid link that passes on PR so anything that falls into that category is suspect. I reckon the only thing that could save your bacon is the nofollow tag but most advertisers specifically dictate they want dofollow for the task to be accepted.

I think paid post and paid review will be the same, but I separate them as “Paid post is from pay-per-post, sponsoredreviews and etc” while “Paid review is from direct advertiser”. Most of the paid post offer from pay-per-post requires you to use dofollow for the paid link, while the paid review which is from direct advertiser doesn’t require you to insert dofollow link because they just want to promote their products or sites.
This is my thought about paid post and paid review, but I think should be the same, this is just how I categorize them.

Oh, I forgot to say that now the poll is fixed I voted that money was a bonus.
I think there are two big factors in making money on the net, one is traffic and the other is a trust of your brand. I really believe that the one reason Darren Rowse does so well is because he has, over the years, developed a name for himself that people trust. If Darren says an affiliate is good then it must be so and so people rush to jump on the bandwagon. Even if they read the same thing on another blog Darren is more likely to get the sale.
